Cedar Rapids continues flood preparations

Posted: Updated:
With all the rain eastern Iowa has continued to see, the river levels continue to rise.

The Cedar River is now expected to crest in Cedar Rapids at 17.3 feet, according to the National Weather Service. That's considered major flood stage.

The city's Public Works Department is protecting the city to an 18-foot crest level, and will add more measures as needed.

Several city departments are preparing. The gates are now open in the 5-in-1 dam. There's also concrete barrels, cones, and sandbags in place at flood-prone areas.

On Sunday, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department closed all boat ramps. Those will remain closed until the river is under 13 feet again.

Several streets are also closed: http://www.kwwl.com/story/25840483/2014/06/22/roads-closed-in-cedar-rapids-due-to-flooding
