National Holstein Convention in Dubuque this week

Posted: Updated:

Holstein and dairy enthusiasts from all across the U.S. and five other countries will be coming to Dubuque this week for the 2014 National Holstein Convention, dubbed "MOOvin' on the River."

The convention kicks off on Wednesday and goes through Saturday.

The Iowa Holstein Association is teaming up with Holstein Association USA, out of Vermont, to organize the event, which they expect will bring more than 1,000 people to the Key City.

Larry Landsgard is the 2014 convention chair and an Iowa Holstein Association board member.

"Dubuque was ideal for our group because of the number of options available for offsite event opportunities in addition to the convention space available for the adult and junior member activities," Landsgard said.

The trade show floor at the Grand River Center in the Port of Dubuque will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday. People can stop by the more than 60 dairy-related booths.

According to a media release from the Dubuque Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the 2014 National Holstein Convention is expected to generate $1.75 million in local economic impact.
