Bosnian culture celebrated in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - Dozens of people in Waterloo experienced the Bosnian culture on Saturday.

It was part of the first ever Bosnian Cultural Festival at the Grout Museum.

From 9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., people enjoyed samples of traditional Bosnian food, including Baclava and Burek, and learned about the history of Bosnia.

Organizers said the goal was for Bosnian people to connect with others who shared similar stories and backgrounds, and for people to learn more about the Bosnian culture.

Alma Hrustanovic moved to the United States from Bosnia with her family in 2001.

"I just like to support things like this because there's a lot of us here in Waterloo, so it's nice to see people learning about our culture," she said.

Aside from food samples and cooking demonstrations, people shared poetry and watched a Bosnian dance troupe performance.
