Hundreds dump junk at city-wide clean-up in Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people dumped their junk and old electronics at Waterloo's Waste Management site on Saturday.

From 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Waterloo residents were able to drop off their unwanted appliances, tires, and furniture.

It was part of the city's annual city-wide "Buck Day," where each vehicle entering the site was only charged $2.00.

People dropping off larger items were charged an extra fee.

Crews said they'll recycle as much of the items as they can, and the rest will be taken to the landfill.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to get rid of stuff I've been waiting to get rid of," said Michael Zilk of Waterloo who brought a trailer full of unwanted items.

Organizers said they'll host a similar recycling program for TVs and electronics sometime in the Spring.
