Governor's Volunteer Awards honor hundreds of eastern Iowans

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of eastern Iowans received the Governor's Volunteer Award Friday, in the award's 31st consecutive year.

The award honors local volunteers involved with Iowa non-profit, charitable and government organizations.

Black Hawk County had 55 winners, Dubuque County had 14 recipients, Johnson County had 17 and Linn County had 75.

Many more recipients came from eastern Iowa. The list of honorees, by county, is HERE:

The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Services coordinates the program. Volunteers are chosen for an award in one of several categories, which are individual, group, disaster volunteer and length of service.

A small handling fee that comes with each nomination helps cover the cost of printing certificates and ceremony invitations, as well as event materials, memento photographs, pins and postage.
