TIPTON (KWWL) - The Tipton Police Department is welcoming a new furry friend.

Bullet, a Belgian Malinois shepherd, is joining the department. According to the City of Tipton Economic Development Office, she's the city's first K-9 officer and currently the only one in Cedar County.

Bullet and her handler, Officer Scott McGlaughlin, are currently going through training. Bullet will be trained on narcotics and search and rescue.

The pair will return to Tipton for the 4th of July weekend. After the city's parade, the public can head to the city park to meet Bullet.

The Tipton Police Department was able to get a K-9 officer thanks to a grant from the non-profit group K9s4COPS.
