Substation fire leaves 1,000 people powerless

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - More than 1,000 people were without power Friday morning after a fire at an electrical substation in Cedar Rapids.

The fire started around 2:30 Friday morning at a substation at the intersection of Edgewood Rd. NE and 42nd St.

Traffic was blocked off in the area, but has been reopened. Additional lane closures could happen throughout the day.

No one was hurt in the fire, and as of 5:45 a.m. Alliant Energy has restored power to all customers in the area.
