Yellow River dumps into century old farm

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Yellow River made a muddy, wet mess for people in Allamakee County.

Carolyn Clark said she's used to the river spilling over its banks and flooding her basement.

"It's done this in '93, '98, 2003, 2008, 2013 and now this year," she said.

Clark said, however, it's never been higher than the seven feet that soaked her basement on Thursday.

"We were in the basement and it was about waist high," she said, adding that when they went to pull a window shut, more water came rushing in.

"We got totally covered with floody river water," she said.

Clark said her family's farm usually gets flooded every few years, but she's always prepared and doesn't keep much in the basement. She said she was thankful for the help from nearby family members, neighbors and friends, and she was grateful no one was hurt.
