Dubuque tests CodeRed Emergency system Thursday

Posted: Updated:

If you received a call from the City of Dubuque or Dubuque County Thursday morning, the call was not spam.

The City of Dubuque and Dubuque County tested the CodeRED Emergency Notification System on Thursday by calling all telephone numbers in the system's database.

The call will give the emergency management personnel the chance to operate the system as if there has been a community-wide disaster while updating and verifying the system, according to the press release.

The CodeRED system is a high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications and other important messages. The system allows local officials to telephone all or targeted areas of the city or county in the case of an emergency situation.

Dubuque County and the City of Dubuque began using the service in 2008.

More information about the CodeRED system is on the City of Dubuque's website. Any questions should be directed to the Dubuque County Emergency Management Agency at 563-589-4170.
