HIAWATHA (KWWL) -
The Hiawatha Fire Department is a finalist in a national competition.
The Johnsonville "Best of US" honors volunteer firefighters.
Hiawatha is the only department in eastern Iowa named as a finalist for this year's competition.
If they win the grand prize they'll receive $10,000, 100 smoke detectors and a free training library from International Fire Training Service Training Association. Plus, they'll get free Johnsonville sausage products.
Firefighters from Hiawatha say if they win they'll access to a lot of resources they wouldn't have been able to afford. They also say the smoke detectors will help make the community safer.
Voting ends at Friday evening. Johnsonville is expected to announce the winners next week.
