SHELLSBURG (KWWL) - The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying and locating a man involved in a fraud investigation.

A man convinced an elderly woman to pay nearly $8,000 for electrical work Tuesday at her home south of Shellsburg.

The man identified himself as Gregory Long using a Missouri driver's license while cashing the check at a local bank.

He posed as a worker from a local electrical company in an area that was damaged by Monday night's storms. Long told the woman that mice had chewed threw her wiring and it needed replaced.

It is not known if Long is the man's correct identity, but police have learned he is a suspect in several other similar investigations.

A similar incident took place in the Linn County area, where the vehicle he used was described as light colored.

Long is also wanted in Parker County, Texas and at least one other Texas county for the same crime that happened June 4. It's believed that he targets areas with storm damage.

In Texas, he was driving a white, four-wheel-drive pickup with chrome equipment and unknown out-of-state license plates.

A female was with him in Texas, but he was alone in Iowa.

Any valid utility employee will have proper credentials.

If you have information regarding the identity or location of this man, contact the Benton County Sheriff's Office at 319-472-2337, the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Linn County Crime Stoppers or your local law enforcement agency.
