ISU's Thomas arrested for OWI

Posted: Updated:
AMES (KWWL) - Iowa State freshman Matt Thomas was arrested by Ames police late Friday night and was charged with operating while intoxicated. Thomas is the second ISU player to be charged this spring. Ames police arrested Abdel Nader in April. He has since pleaded not guilty and will have a court date next month.
Thomas, 19, issued an apology on Saturday via his twitter account. "(I) want to apologize to ISU, my team, family, friends & community. This isn't me. I'll learn from this mistake and be a better person from it."
Coach Fred Hoiberg has yet to announce any disciplinary action. Thomas averaged 5.5 points per game as a freshman last season.
