Kennedy defeats Hempstead in record fashion to capture 3A soccer title

DES MOINES (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids Kennedy won their second state soccer title in the last 3 seasons on Saturday. Kennedy defeated Dubuque Hempstead 5-2 in the highest scoring championship game in state history.
The Cougars wasted no time as Annie Feltes bent a corner kick in to the net less than 5 minutes in to the match. Alesha Duccini quickly answered for Hempstead, however, beating a defender a tapping home a goal to equalize the score.
That's when Kennedy took over. Alyssa Drewelow scored in the 24th minute to give the lead back to Kennedy. They added another on Feltes second goal off a corner kick in a bit of luck. The kick bounced off a Hempstead player and in to the net as Kennedy led 3-1 at halftime.
Anna Frerich's put the nail in the coffin late in the second half to give the Mustangs an insurmountable 4-1 lead with 14 minutes. remaining. Duccini would later score her second for Hempstead, while Feltes completed the hat trick with her third goal coming in the final minute.
