WSR girls fall 2-1 in 2A soccer final

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) - Katie Connor's 20 yard goal in overtime put an end to it. Connor's tally gave North Scott the class 2A girls state soccer title as the Lancers defeated Waverly-Shell Rock 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Go-Hawks, playing in the state final for just the second time in school history, struck first. Katie Stewart's goal at the 20 minute mark gave Waverly-Shell Rock the 1-0 lead. It remained that way for 12 minutes before North Scott's Karli Rucker scored the equalizer. The two teams then played 56 minutes of scoreless soccer before Connor struck the game winner.
Waverly-Shell Rock's runner-up finish was the second for the squad as the first came in the 2006 season.
