Emerald Ash Borer found in Johnson County

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says an Iowa City resident found an Emerald Ash Borer in Johnson County. Testing confirmed that the insect the person found was the destructive beetle.

However, testing of the area has not yet found an infestation of the beetles.

Experts call the EAB one of the most destructive pests in decades.

To date there have been nine Iowa counties that have had infestations of the insects: Allamakee, Des Moines, Jefferson, Cedar, Union, Black Hawk, Bremer, Wapello and Jasper Counties.

The EAB destroys ash trees. Experts recommend planting a variety of trees in advance, before the EAB destroys ash trees.
