GUTTENBERG (KWWL) -

Guttenberg Fire Chief Chad Esmann confirms his department responded around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to a house fire at 131 Garber Road.

Nobody was injured and the house's owner, Susan Bartz, was not home at the time, Esmann said.

He said neighbors reported hearing a blast around the time of the fire.

Due to the suspicious nature of the fire and because there were no apparent witnesses of the fire, the Iowa State Fire Marshal's office was on scene Wednesday afternoon, along with members of the Guttenberg Police Department, investigating.

As of Wednesday evening, Esmann said, state fire marshal's office said the cause is undetermined, pending further investigation. He said the homeowner's insurance and gas companies will also be investigating.

Firefighters from Elkader, Garber and Garnavillo helped out.
