Waterloo police lock down neighborhood in standoff

Posted: Updated:

Police swarmed a Waterloo neighborhood Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to bring a suicidal man into custody.

Police responded to the home in the 700 block of Janney Ave. before 3 p.m. There, officers stood for hours with rifles trained on the home while negotiators spoke with the man. Eventually, the tactical unit used an armored truck to rip the front door off the structure.

Police also used tear gas.

Officers entered the home around 4:30.

The man died of self inflicted wounds.
