Three-peat for Iowa City West soccer

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) - Iowa City West made history. The Trojans defeated Johnston 1-0 to become the first class 3A boys team to win 3 straight state soccer championships.
The 2-time defending champs actually came in as underdogs to the #1, undefeated Dragons.
Neither team could find the back of the net for the first 57 minutes, but that's when the Trojans broke through. Senior Jack Hatch gained control in the box, firing a shot past the keeper midway through the second half. That would turn out to be the game winner.
"I'm at a loss for words, making history, the first big school to 3-peat," said Olson, "It's a pretty big deal. For me to score the goal for the team,it means a lot being a senior, going out on top. I'm ready to celebrate."
With the win, Iowa City West won their 5th state championship in the last 6 years.
