DES MOINES (KWWL) - It was the old guard versus the new kids on the block in class 1-A as eight-time qualifier and four-time champion Iowa City Regina looked to take down a Mid-Prairie team playing in the tournament for the first time.

The Regals looked like the favorites early, but they couldn't put any home as the game remained scoreless at the half.

In the second half it was the Golden Hawks making a push, getting some good looks at the net. But again, none would make it in.
The Regals would make a push to end it in the final minutes, but Ryan Vollstedt's beautiful shot bounces off the cross-bar.

In the end a penalty kick shootout would decide it. Both keepers would have it going in the shoot-out as just 2 out of 5 shots on each side would find the back of the net. In round number six, after a Regina make, Mid-Prairie's Jarrett Truitt would go high on his attempt, giving Iowa City Regina back-to-back tiles and their fifth state soccer championship.

“We were confident going in to the shoot-out in terms of that's what we do. We practice PK's a lot. We practice shoot-outs a lot,” said Regina head coach Rick Larew.
“When it went high, I think I was the next shooter so I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it, but when it went over it's just the realization sets in we just won. That's all that was going through my mind,” said Aiden Mullen, Senior goalkeeper for the Regals.
