Dubuque group tackling drug, alcohol abuse Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

People who want to help tackle the issues of drug and alcohol abuse in Dubuque can attend a free event Wednesday evening.

It's called "Taking a Look in Our Own Backyard: Next Steps," and it addresses underage use of drugs and alcohol in Dubuque, as well as over-consumption of the substances by people of all ages.

The event is on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Keystone Area Education Agency, located at 2310 Chaney Road in Dubuque.

The meeting is a follow-up to a similar April event. This month, however, the event will be focused on taking active steps toward addressing the problems. April's event was geared toward defining and raising awareness about the problems.

For more information, contact Sue Greene with Helping Services for Northeast Iowa at 563-582-5317 or Steve Eastvedt with the Dubuque Area Substance Abuse Coalition or visit http://www.helpingservices.org/events/index.php?eID=589.

People who register for the event online and attend will be eligible for a $50 Visa gift card drawing.
