Cedar Valley TechWorks in Waterloo to begin renovation later this year

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - New stores for shopping, restaurants for dining and a hotel for overnight stays; these are all developments in the planning stages for the Cedar Valley TechWorks campus in downtown Waterloo.

Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark said the revamping will take place in three phases, and phase one is already a done deal with the help of the Finance Development Program.

The initial phase will include a hotel, manufacturing space, 3-D printing and also the John Deere Museum. Mayor Clark expects this phase to begin construction in late summer/early fall of this year.

Additional funding comes into play for phases two and three, as the City of Waterloo applied for $12 million from the state to assist in these aspects of the redevelopment.

Phase two will bring in retail and commercial spaces, while the third phase calls for a marina to be built in future years.

Mayor Clark said he remains optimistic regarding the city's state funding application, and also for his vision of Waterloo.

"We are just growing incredibly, there are so many positive things happening here, it's just a great time to be in Waterloo."

The City of Waterloo is scheduled to find out how much it will receive in state funding on June 20.
