Cedar Falls moves towards new high school, additions

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The Cedar Falls School Board is continuing the push towards a new high school, among other things.

They say the new facilities are necessary to support a growing student body, estimated at another thousand students in the next 10 years.

Monday, the board approved the facilities committee's recommendation. This means they will explore the costs of building a new high school, as well as additions to other buildings.

Superintendent Andy Pattee said this is just the first step in expanding the district to meet new needs.

"That's probably our major hurdle as we look to the future, to be sure that we have spaces that meet our educational goals, to be able to accommodate all of our growth," he said.

Board members will meet again later this month. They plan to have a proposal for the November ballot ready before July 25.
