Reward offered for arrest in Cedar Falls homicide of Norman Gant

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

There are still no arrests and no persons of interest in connection to a homicide in Cedar Falls.

It happened more than a week ago, but police say people shouldn't be concerned the killer is still on the loose.

Norman Gant was found last Sunday on Tremont Street in Cedar Falls with a gunshot wound. He later died at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Capt. Craig Berte says they continue to follow up on leads and interview people. He says they are having trouble finding people who want to speak up and who were around when Gant was shot.

Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward, and Cedar Falls police is also offering a reward, but don't have a set amount. Berte says that money is related to the value of information. He says he hopes this is incentive for someone to come forward so they can bring justice for Gant.

He says people shouldn't be concerned that there hasn't been an arrest made because he believes everyone involved is "interconnected."

"We believe through our investigation that the shooter or shooters and the person who was killed and the associates that were in the area all had a relationship, and that this crime just happened to occur on Tremont Street in Cedar Falls," said Berte.

Family members told KWWL Monday they didn't have any new information, but say they held funeral services for Gant on Saturday.

The last homicide in Cedar Falls was more than three years ago.

Daniel Reddout was found guilty of killing his 18-month-old son, Kaleb, in April 2011 in Cedar Falls. Police say he suffocated the child in an attempt to put him to sleep.
