Friends of unsolved homicide victims react to police solving one Cedar Rapids case

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A memorial at 1708 4th Ave SE marks the scene of a tragedy that left two people dead: two of the four homicides this year where police could not immediately track down the killer. One of those cases, police say, is now solved. That gives some hope to friends of the other victims.

"It just seems that when there's a shooting or a crime everybody instead of helping closes up," said Denia Davis, Cedar Rapids.

Denia Davis has been impacted by gunfire twice this year, losing one friend in Cedar Rapids shortly after her daughter was shot and paralyzed in Iowa City.

"Only two of so many got arrested," said Davis. "Of the ones who are at large it seems like they're out having a good time while my daughter's learning how to walk again."

Cedar Rapids Police are investigating the city's unsolved crimes, working to gather the evidence needed to make charges stick.

"They're active investigations," said Wayne Jerman, Cedar Rapids Police Chief. "I wish I could announce an arrest in those cases as well but right now we're relieved that Mr. Little has been charged with the murder and we can bring some form of closure to the family of Miss Beyhl."

A sense of closure friends and family of the other victims hope they, too, will get one day soon.
