CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Cedar Rapids Police say it is now safe for people living in the 500 block of 7th Ave. SW to return.

The Special Response Team entered 503 7th Ave SW and did not find anyone inside.

The Fire Departments says there are no hazardous gases in or around the home.

The Police Department's Narcotics Division continues to investigate.

Cedar Rapids Police have surrounded a house for what they are calling a possible narcotics investigation and suspicious persons report at 503 7th Avenue SW.  Reports from the scene indicate it may be some kind of drug investigation.
Area residents are being asked to avoid that area until the all-clear is given.

Cedar Rapids Police have set up a secure perimeter around the house and have been on the scene since a little after one Friday afternoon.

Police believe there may be persons still inside the house, and police say they are working to determine if any threat exists.

Cedar Rapids Police uniformed officers were joined by what appear to be members of (SWAT) the Special Weapons and Tactical Unit of the department. Several officers are walking around with weapons drawn.

The initial call to police was a report of suspicious persons at the two-story, four-family home. When officers arrived on the scene, they found that someone had tossed a fire extinguisher out a window of the house. An anhydrous material began leaking from the extinguisher, causing concern for neighbors and officers at the scene.

Police secured the immediate area and called in the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, due to the potential hazardous material leaking from the extinguisher.

Two people are in custody, but it's unclear if they are related to what's going on inside the house .Authorities ordered an adult male to leave the scene, but he refused to leave. Police arrested him and charged him with Interference with Official Acts. Police also took a second adult male into custody on a probation violation.

Cedar Rapids Firefighters will remain on the scene as authorities try to determine if hazardous materials are inside the house and if there is any threat to area residents

The incident caused a lock down at nearby Taylor Elementary School, where 40 students were taking part in an enrichment program.  Parents were able to pick up children at 4:00 p.m.
