Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Clients in the Meals On Wheels program in Cedar Rapids will be treated every month over the summer to a lunch "made in Iowa" for the second year as part of the Local Foods program.

Horizons partners with farmers and businesses and provide meals using ingredients produced within state lines.

The first Local Foods Day of 2014, scheduled for June 19, will feature pork rites, strawberry rhubarb crumble and a fresh lettuce spinach salad with homemade dressing.

Horizons will also hold an event at NewBo City Market celebrating the start of the season on Thursday, June 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The general public will be able to sample items and participate in planting seeds.

Local farmers or food vendors interested in participating should contact Ms. Barnett at 319-398-3943, ext. 1011.
