Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Thursday the University of Iowa moved in a 42-ton magnet.

The 7 Tesla Whole Body Scanner uses a magnetic field to create three-dimensional images of body parts.

UI researchers plan to use the scanner to learn more about how the brain works. They say the scanner will help them do research that wasn't possible before.

The University of Iowa is one of about 20 research institutes in the country and one of 40 worldwide.
