IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
Two men are in the Johnson County Jail following a shooting in Iowa City Wednesday night.
The Iowa City Police Department says they were called to the Pheasant Ridge Apartments in the 2600 block of Roberts Road at around 7:25 p.m. Wednesday after reports of shots being fired.
Witnesses told officers that three black men had run from the area after two of the men were shooting at each other.
After receiving descriptions of two of the suspects, police arrested 19-year-old Marqueese Lashawn Hampton and 20-year-old O'Sean Dentale Horton in the area of Mormon Trek Boulevard and Westwinds Drive.
Officers say no one was injured, but a building was struck by gunfire.
A few minutes later, two males matching the descriptions of the suspects were detained by officers near Mormon Trek and Westwinds Drive. Further investigation into the matter identified these two males as the people who had been shooting weapons. No one appeared to have been injured during the shooting, but one building did receive damage after being struck by a bullet. The Iowa City Police Department's Investigation Unit was called in to assist and the two suspects were identified as:
Both Hampton and Horton are charged with going armed with intent which is punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $7,500 fine.
Hampton is also charged with possessing contraband and possession of a controlled substance after police found two bags of marijuana and a large amount of cash on him.
The case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
