The Benton County Sheriff's Office says a small plane made a hard landing in a corn field at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
The plane landed in a field near the intersection of Mt. Auburn Road and Main.
Benton County says the pilot was the only person inside the plane, and he was not injured.
First responders said the emergency landing was made after the plane started filling with smoke during a mechanical problem.
Benton County, Black Hawk County, and La Porte City Fire and Police responded to the call.
