Cedar Rapids ready to fix streets, thanks to voter support

Just seven months after Linn County voters approved an extension to the Local Option Sales Tax, the City of Cedar Rapids is getting ready to fix streets.

In November, county voters approved a one-percent sales tax extension. In Cedar Rapids, the money is going to street repair.

The tax will be extended for 10 years. The city is calling the project Paving for Progress.

After voters approved the idea, the city got to work on a list of quick start projects.

Here's the list of projects for 2014:

    • 13th Street NW from A Avenue to B Avenue

    • 3rd Avenue SW Improvements from 6th Street to 10th Street

    The first-ever Run the Bases 5K/10K will be hosted by the Cedar Valley SportsPlex on Saturday, August 16. All proceeds will benefit Build Our Ballpark. This event will include all levels of athletes, there will be a mile-long Fun Run at 8 a.m. for kids and families near Young Arena. Then the 5K and 10K races will take off simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. near the SportsPlex.More >>
