Race driver dies in shop accident

Posted: Updated:
QUASQUETON (KWWL) - A tragic shop accident took the life of Brandon Smith of Quasqueton on Saturday morning. Smith was killed in an accident while working on a car in his shop.
The 25 year old had raced in Independence the previous night, and was scheduled to race at the track again on Saturday. In his absence, drivers honored his memory by placing decals on their cars of Smith's number 49. During the feature race of the sports modified division, the cars lined up in the "missing car formation," leaving the pole position empty.
Smith leaves behind his fiance Stephanie King, son Carver, as well as a baby the couple has on the way.
