New Hampton Police: We waited to send rape kit

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) - New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson told KWWL Friday his department still hasn't received the results of a teenager's rape kit sent more than nine weeks ago.

He said the rape kit was mailed to crime analysts at the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Crime Lab on March 25th, a day after he confirms the rape kit was completed.

"We held onto it because we have to process it," he said.

When asked what he meant by that, Anderson said he had no comment.

Anderson said rape kits are typically mailed via certified mail.

"Once in a great while we'll have someone deliver it," he said.

KWWL asked Anderson why the New Hampton high school student's rape kit was not delivered in person to the state's Crime Lab.

He said he didn't know and had no additional comments.
