City of Dubuque to host Chaplain Schmitt Island Master Plan discussion

Posted: Updated:

The City of Dubuque will host a second open house to discuss the master planning of Chaplain Schmitt Island. The event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, June 2, at the Hotel Julien Dubuque, 200 Main St., in the Harbor Gallery Room.

Chaplain Schmitt Island is located in the Mississippi River and is home to commercial and recreational uses, including a casino, restaurants, hotel, marina, excursion boat, sports complex, ice center, and parks.

Dubuque's City Council has made the creation of a Chaplain Schmitt Island master plan a priority. Mystique Casino is co-sponsoring the master plan process.

The City of Dubuque has hired Cunningham Group to lead a master plan process for Chaplain Schmitt Island to identify opportunities and build partnerships for development, according to the press release.

The intent of the public open house is to provide an update of the planning process and review preliminary recommendations since the first open house in February. Public feedback is essential so the master plan reflects the needs of key stakeholders and the community.
