Dubuque student brings multi-tool Swiss-Army style knife to school

Posted: Updated:

A Dubuque Hoover Elementary School student was found in possession of a multi-tool Swiss-Army-style knife was found Wednesday.

The student was showing the multi-tool to students, but not displaying the tool in a threatening matter according to Dubuque Community School District officials.

The tool was immediately confiscated when it's presence was reported by another student.

Officials with the school district say disciplinary action on the student, if any, will be based on the results of an investigation.

The message that went out to parents is in its entirety below, as sent out in a press release from the district:

Dear Hoover Families,

Earlier today, it was discovered that a student was in possession of a mini, multi-tool Swiss-Army-style knife in school and showed it to other students. It was immediately confiscated when its presence was reported by another student. It was not displayed in a threatening manner and there was never any danger to students or staff.

We wanted you to be aware of what happened and to assure you of work to address it. While not technically considered a weapon, Swiss Army knives and pocket knives are still dangerous objects and it is against school policy to have these items in any school facility.

Thank you for your continuous support of Hoover and our students.
