New Hampton Police Chief still waiting for teen's rape kit

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) - New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson told KWWL his department is still waiting for the results of a rape kit from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

He said a rape kit was completed from a sexual assault investigation at New Hampton High School on March 24 after a rape was reported in the boys' locker room.

Last week, Anderson told KWWL the rape kit was mailed to the DCI Crime Lab, so he's not sure when crime analysts received it.

However, state law requires sexual assault kits involving juveniles to be processed by the Crime Lab within 60 days of receiving them.

Anderson said Wednesday, he still hadn't received the results.

"I don't know when we'll receive anything, but we're expecting it today or tomorrow," he said.

Anderson said once he receives the results of the rape kit, the case will be turned over to the Chickasaw County Attorney.
