Two Dubuque men are charged in a federal indictment after a fire this year related to the making of meth.

The United States Department of Justice says 46-year-old John Starks Sr. and 24-year-old Casey Duhme tried to make meth on Feb. 20.

According to information disclosed in court, it ended with a fire at a multi-family apartment building. The building was also located across the street from Prescott Elementary School.

If convicted on all charges, Starks faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year in prison and a possible maximum sentence of 120 years in prison, in addition to a $4.5 million fine.

Duhme faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 80 years, as well as a $4 million fine.

Both are being held in the custody of the United States Marshal pending their trial, scheduled for July 14.
