DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Corrections is looking for a man who escaped a work release facility in Polk County Monday.

In a press release from Iowa Department of Corrections spokesperson Fred Scaletta, Jessie Smith failed to return to the Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility.

Smith was serving a 10 year sentence for robbery in the second degree after a conviction in May 2007. Smith was transferred to the work release program on March 20.

The Iowa Department of Corrections says Smith is an African American with tattoos on both of his forearms. Smith weighs 174 pounds and is 5-foot-9-inches tall.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Des Moines Police Department or Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
