HALBUR (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill near Halbur that is being blamed on a anhydrous ammonia spill.

The DNR says the spill happened at the West Central Co-op just before noon on Saturday.

An investigation determined that runoff created by washing the area where the spill happened reached a tributary of Brushy Creek.

The DNR says they found dead fish along a two-mile stretch of Brushy Creek. They plan to return to the area on Monday to complete an assessment.
