Fallen veterans remembered in Cedar Falls

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Dozens of people made their way to Veterans Park in Cedar Falls for the AMVETS Post 49 Memorial Day sunset service Sunday.

Military members placed a wreath under the American flag in honor of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Organizers say they hope everyone takes time to honor veterans past and present.

"More awareness for the veterans that are present around them in their neighborhoods, cities, and the country actually because more of them are forgotten," said Michael Morgan, Post Commander for AMVETS Post 49.

Memorial day events will continue in Cedar Falls with a program starting at 11:00 a.m. at the AMVETS Post, 1934 Irving Street, with the Cedar Falls Municipal Band performing at 10:40. The program will take place inside the flag park, weather permitting. It's a tradition for the AMVETS to display 300 plus American flags for veterans who have died.
