New Hampton Police Chief: No rape kit results yet

Posted: Updated:
NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) - New Hampton Police Chief Mike Anderson told KWWL Friday his department was still waiting on the results of a rape kit from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

He said a rape kit was completed from a sexual assault investigation at New Hampton High School more than eight weeks ago.

The attorney representing the 17-year-old student, who claims she was sodomized and raped in the boys' locker room on March 24, told KWWL previously that state law requires juvenile sexual assault kits to be processed within 60 days.

When KWWL asked Anderson about the 60-day deadline from DCI, he said the police department actually mailed the rape kit to DCI via certified mail, so he estimated it wasn't received until 3-4 days later.

Anderson said he talked with crime analysts at DCI on Thursday.

"They were working on it yesterday," he said.

Anderson said no charges have been filed.
