USA Hockey will honor the Waterloo Black Hawks' Cal Petersen as the Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year during an awards celebration next month in Colorado Springs.
With Cal in net the Black Hawks won a franchise-record 44 games taking the Anderson Cup as the USHL’s top regular season team. Petersen was in net for all 12 of the Hawks’ postseason contests, helping Waterloo reach the championship round for the fifth time during the last 11 years. Waterloo ended the year as runners-up for the Clark Cup..
Petersen is committed to the University of Notre Dame. He is the first Black Hawk to win USA Hockey’s Dave Peterson Award.
The late Dave Peterson was the head coach of the 1988 and 1992 United States Men’s Olympic Teams, as well as being an innovator in goalie training and development. The award presented in his honor has been given annually to the top American-born goaltender playing hockey at the junior level since 1998.
