Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Tuesday we got to take a look inside a new medical research facility at the University of Iowa.

Governor Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds went on a tour of the Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building.

The $126 million building has six floors of research labs. Much of that space will be dedicated to research on diabetes and obesity.

"What a great facility to attract important scientists here to I think to really make it possible for us to train people that will play a key role in medicine," said Branstad.

The building is set to open next month.

John and Mary Pappajohn donated $26.4 million for the facility. The rest comes form state funds, federal grants, and other sources.
