Hawkeye Football key to success, offensive and defensive lines

Posted: Updated:
Football games are won and lost in the trenches. That is more than just a cliche for Iowa Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz. It's been the key to success.  On Monday night, Ferentz and several Hawkeye coaches made the annual I-Club visit to Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo. Ferentz and the Hawkeyes return four starters to an offensive line anchored by All-American tackle Brandon Scherf that produced nearly 180 yards a game on the ground and 197 yards a game through the air.  The Hawks also return experience on the defensive line led by talented junior tackle Carl Davis. Ferentz says the development of both lines are important to any success the Hawks will experience in 2014.
