Man allegedly impersonates Dubuque police officer

Posted: Updated:

Dubuque police are looking for a man who apparently tried impersonating an officer on Saturday night.

Dubuque police spokesperson Lt. Scott Baxter confirms 22-year-old Dubuque man Timothy Mills reported an unknown man had pulled him over sometime between 11:50 p.m Saturday and 12:10 a.m. Sunday. That was on Dodge Street, near South Grandview and Fremont Avenues.

Mills told police a gold SUV had been following his vehicle and flashing its headlights, so Mills pulled over and the SUV pulled up behind him. That's when the driver of the SUV got out and approached Mills' vehicle.

Baxter said Mills reports the man claimed to be a Dubuque police officer and told Mills he was under arrest. Mills then questioned the man and called 911. Dispatchers informed Mills the man was not, in fact, a Dubuque police officer.
