Oak Tree of Peace in Waterloo celebrates 3rd anniversary

Posted: Updated:

People gathered at Gates Park in Waterloo at the Oak Tree of Peace Saturday.

It was established 2 years ago to honor and remember the victims of unsolved homicides and their family members.

Members of the group behind it say their organization serves as a way to remind people to continue to work toward stopping violence and support the families of the victims.

"We care, and we're here to support one another. It's not an individual goal or financial reward. It's saying "enough is enough" and if it's going to be, it's up to us. So that's why we're here," said founder Erick Gafeney.

The group plans to put up a plaque in the park next to the Oak Tree of Peace which will have the names of victims of unsolved homicides from the Waterloo area.
