TIPTON (KWWL) - David’s Famous Gourmet Frozen Custard has announced plans to open a production facility in Tipton.

The $1.2 million project, which is slated to begin later this month, is being helped by a $125,000 award of direct financial assistance and tax credits through the High Quality Jobs Program.

David's Famous will convert a 10,000-square-foot agriculture implement building into their production and warehousing facility.

They expect to add 34 full-time jobs.

“This was the result of the right location at the right time, and we can’t wait to get started,” said David’s Famous owner David Gott in a written statement. “We’re currently producing our product in Minnesota, and the new Tipton location will allow us to aggressively expand in the Midwest.”

David’s Famous makes five flavors, including Vanilla, Dutch Chocolate, Sea Salt Caramel, Lemon and Coffee, which are sold in 18 locations in Minnesota and Iowa. They plan to add more flavors with the new facility.

Gott plans to work with Kirkwood Community College on a job training program for his new staff.

The High Quality Jobs Program award is contingent upon final approval for a Rural Economic Development Revolving Loan from Central Iowa Power Cooperative. That decision is expected to be made on June 3.
