Poll: Joni Ernst on top of Senate primary race

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) - A new poll shows Joni Ernst with a significant lead in the Republican primary race for U.S. Senate.

The poll showed Ernst -- whose gun-toting, pork-cutting campaign ads have received national attention -- with a lead of more than 11 points over Mark Jacobs.

Sam Clovis, Matt Whitaker and Scott Shaben tallied in the rest of the votes, with another 29 percent of people surveyed still undecided.

The Loras College Poll surveyed 600 likely Iowa GOP primary voters, with a 4 percent margin of error.

The survey was conducted May 12-13 using telephone interviews. Survey includes both landlines (80 percent) and cell phones (20 percent).

Lists for the sample included only those who voted in the 2010 Republican primary or 2012 Republican primary.
