UPDATE: Cedar Rapids apartment fire blamed on meth making

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A man arrested at the scene of a Cedar Rapids apartment fire on Thursday has been charged with arson and manufacturing methamphetamine.

Crews were called to building 1611 of The Pointe apartments on Park Town Lane NE, near the intersection of 42nd Street NE and Sherman Street NE, just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday for a kitchen fire.

Crews on scene say damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started, although everyone was evacuated for safety.

On Friday, Greg Buelow, Public Safety Communications Coordinator, announced that 33-year-old Christopher Richard Falls, who was arrested at the scene, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, first degree arson, possession of precursors – lithium, possession of precursors – pseudoephedrine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Falls was taken to the Linn County Jail.
