FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) -

Authorities in Fayette County now have a man in custody following the assault of a woman over the weekend.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was looking for 41-year-old Mathew Durnan, who they say had broken into the woman's home and assaulted her.

The sheriff's office says Durnan broke open the door, assaulted the victim, then ran away when deputies arrived.

The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

After a search Monday, the sheriff's office said Durnan turned himself in to authorities.

A warrant for his arrest was issued for burglary in the first degree, domestic abuse causing serious injury, and violation of a no-contact order.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says Durnan could face up to 28 years in prison if convicted on those charges.
