UPDATE: Temporary stop sign installed after Waterloo council meets via email

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A temporary stop sign has been put up at the intersection of Wyoming Street and Blowers Avenue following a council meeting via email.

In a release sent by DeAnne Kobliska, the administrative secretary for the city clerk, Traffic Operations Superintendent Sandie Greco recommended that a temporary stop sign be placed at the intersection during construction work on Lafayette Street.

Greco says drivers are using that route as an alternative to the signed detour. She says there have been a few recent crashes, including one on Friday that Greco said was serious, and many near misses.

Greco added that, due to sight visibility and traffic approaching from Lafayette, Wyoming should be the through street at the intersection with Blowers.

Four council members, Quentin Hart, Steve Schmitt, Ron Welpert and Tom Lind, shared their votes with everyone that received Kobliska's original email -- including the media. All four voted to approve the stop sign.

When asked how often the council votes via email, Steve Schmitt, At Large council member, replied, "In seven years, I bet I can't remember a half dozen times we've done this."
